Dubai Shopping Festival

Running well into its 16th edition, the mega shopping event was started on 15 February 1996 by the country's government. It is not just the pride of the Emirates, but of the whole world. Shopping fests and events across the globe have taken inspiration from this large-scale retail sale. This tourist attraction now brings above 3 million people to Dubai. Cultural shows, international fashion shows, visiting artists, musical shows, film festivals and fireworks keep people up even after sundown!
Everything in the city and suburbs come alive during the festival season. Shopping malls, hotels, airlines, shops and entertainment hangouts don their best in the months starting before the actual event. Promotional programmes and raffles start well in advance to attract maximum number of visitors. And sellers and promoters come here from many countries to showcase their wares.

DSF's slogan of 'One Family, One World, One Festival', global village, a shopping village, stands true to its name even today. Every segment of shopping can be seen here - household goods, food, spices, children's items, textiles, cars, gold, properties, entertainment goods and services. The fact that almost everything is available for huge discounts is a major attraction for visitors.

The DSF is as 'Layali Dubai' known in Arabic. The major shopping areas of the city are Al Faheidi Road, Al Rigga Road, Al Karama, Al Satwa's Al Dhiyafah Road and Beniyas Square. Traditional souks and modern malls co-exist on the same lanes, with people flocking to both in large numbers. Look for malls such as BurJuman Centre, Deira City Centre, Oasis Centre, Mercato Mall, Hamarain Centre, Al Mulla Plaza, Bin Sougat Centre and Palm Strip Shopping Mall.

Souks, or traditional street markets sell anything from jewellery to spices. Go for the best here. Choose from famous ones such as Spice Souk, Satwa Souk, Deira Old Souk & Spice Souk, Bur Dubai Souk and Food souk.
